Cosmin Maier’s practice focuses on patent infringement litigation, appeals, and inter partes review proceedings.  Cosmin enjoys diving into all different types of technical fields and is a natural teacher of technology, having helped teach an undergraduate engineering course during his graduate and law school studies at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.  Cosmin also focuses his pro bono work on helping artists with intellectual property disputes.

Cosmin has experience with all aspects of patent litigation, including direct and cross-examination at trial, Markman hearings, and all forms of discovery.  Cosmin has practiced before numerous U.S. District Courts, the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, the International Trade Commission, and has argued before the Federal Circuit.  Cosmin has been recognized for his work by various publications, including Best Lawyers, IAM, and Super Lawyers.

  • Representing defendant semiconductor manufacturer in the Eastern and Western Districts of Texas and the Northern District of California in several different cases involving LED technology, semiconductor fabrication chambers and tools, and semiconductor manufacturing processes that each ended in either jury verdicts of noninfringement or favorable settlements.
  • Representing defendant smartphone maker in the Western District of Texas in a case involving encryption technology that resulted in a jury verdict of noninfringement.
  • Representing plaintiff/counterclaim-defendant wearable device maker in the District of Delaware in a case involving smart watches that resulted in a favorable jury verdict.
  • Representing defendant surgical robotics company in the District of Delaware that resulted in favorable settlement right before trial after many years of litigation.

  • Representing respondent computer processor manufacturer in different proceedings involving voltage regulation and semiconductor packaging, resulting in findings of noninfringement.

  • Representing semiconductor manufacturer as petitioner in multiple different proceedings involving semiconductor structures, semiconductor fabrication, and electrical circuits, resulting in majority of challenged claims being found unpatentable or in favorable settlements.
  • Representing computer processor manufacturer as petitioner in proceedings involving voltage regulation, resulting in challenged claims being found unpatentable.
  • Representing company using plasma processing chambers as petitioner in numerous proceedings involving thin film deposition, resulting in over 400 challenged claims being found unpatentable.
