Desmarais LLP represented a veteran seeking reimbursement for student loan interest that he had paid while petitioning the Department of Veterans Affairs (“VA”) to cover his educational expenses for a career path he was actively pursuing. Although the VA eventually agreed to reimburse his education expenses, it denied his request for reimbursement of the student loan interest he incurred. Desmarais LLP appealed that denial. In a pre-briefing conference, Desmarais LLP argued that the VA’s denial was flawed for multiple reasons. After the conference and before briefing to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, the VA agreed to resolve our client’s dispute and reimburse him the full amount of his student loan interest.
The Desmarais team included Justin Wilcox, Adam Steinmetz, Marie Delzell, Brooke Miller and Mek Solomon.
