Accolades

The American College of Trial Lawyers has inducted John Desmarais, founding partner of Desmarais LLP, as a member of its 2023 class of Fellows. The induction ceremony was held on February 25, 2023 at the College’s Spring Meeting in Key Biscayne, Florida.

“Fellowship is extended only by invitation, after careful investigation, to those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality,” the College’s website states.

Membership requirements include that attorneys have spent a minimum of 15 years actively engaged in trial work, are among the top trial attorneys in their state or province, and have demonstrated excellent character. Fellows include elite trial lawyers from across the United States and Canada. Founded in 1950, the College’s primary focus is on strengthening the standards of trial practice, professionalism, ethics, and the administration of justice in the legal industry, using both education and public statements to achieve these goals.

Desmarais’s recent trial wins include a $272.5 million jury verdict, with a finding of willful infringement, for the biotech company Ravgen against LabCorp and a jury verdict of noninfringement for Cisco that defeated a $371 million patent infringement lawsuit brought by the software company Egenera.
